Footsteps Christian Preschool was birthed in 2001 in Plettenberg Bay in a wendy house in the back garden of Kim Matter’s home on High Street. Originally, it was a Moms and Babies group known as Tots Academy.
In January 2006 the need for a preschool was realized and a house was rented on Rugby Drive.
Sally Button joined Kim as a teacher, Colette Goedhals as administrator and Evelyn Mojapelo as a teacher’s helper and cleaner. The school started with 13 students between the ages of 2 and 3.
By the end of 2007, the school had grown to such an extent that the need for a new premises arose. A suitable house was found on Longships Drive and school commenced from there in January 2008 with 37 children. By that time two teachers, Rhona Bebington and Claire Badenhorst, had been added to the staff. In November of that year, the property was sold and we had to go! It was then that Kim approached the Plett Community Church requesting the use of the closed skate park on the property.
The current school was constructed during December 2008 and early January 2009. We were ready in time for the new school year!
The school has been designed around our needs. It consists of 6 classrooms, an office, kitchen, boys and girls toilets, an ‘imaginary play’ area and store rooms. We have a large play ground area with jungle gyms and plenty of cement to ride bicycles and play ball games on.
In September 2009, the school added an aftercare option for the children of the school whose parents were not able to collect them by 12:30.
Due to great demand, we decided to change our entry age from 24 to 18 months and we love looking after these busy bodies in the Toddlers class!
Currently, we have Kim Matter as our principal and a permanent staff of 6. We regularly host student teachers and volunteers, giving them the inputs they need to develop their potential.
